/ /Middle School Latin divides the first year of high school Latin study into two years. Therefore, students will receive .5 high school credit for each year completed.
/ /
/ /Middle School Year One uses a combined grammar/reading approach to learning the language (with a heavier emphasis on grammar), and utilizes a blend of in-class/online means to do so.
/ /
/ /Students need not have previous Latin experience, but should have a good understanding of the basic parts of English grammar.
/ /
/ /This class will have two components. First, we will meet once each week for 90 minutes. During class, we will cover vocabulary, grammar, important rules, key terms, and how to use these things. At home during the week, students will contribute to a closed, class wiki. This will be a collaborative effort by all students. Each will rotate being the week's 'main' contributor while their peers furnish supporting text, revisions, additions, and organization to the material. Only those persons with a password are allowed access to the wiki for security reasons.
/ /
/ /A second, separate website called Quia (key-ah) will be utilized. This is a teacher-site that facilitates learning by using games and quizzing. This will help students master their Latin vocabulary as well as grammar concepts. It is likely some of their exercises and tests will be completed here. / /I am excited to put forward a diverse approach to schooling. I believe this will lend more autonomy and worth to the student's area of study. By contributing in a very direct way to a collaborative project, students take ownership of what they are learning and develop enthusiasm for it.
/ /
/ /Middle School students will have the opportunity to take the National Latin Exam in the spring. This prestigious exam is offered each year by the American Classical League and is a favorable addition to a student's school transcript.

I will need your email address, so it would be helpful if you directed your request to me here: bookwormjennifer@yahoo.com. The quia site for Middle School Latin 1 is http://www.quia.com/pages/middleschoolon.html. / /I can place a bulk book order for a discount for those enrolled by 6/15/08. / /
