PLEASE NOTE: An 8th grader in this course should
/
/ideally have previous art experience of some sort, a course, private training,
/
/or similar. If they have not, please enroll them in the middle school course.
/
/
/
/ As in all courses, students will learn the basic elements
/
/and principles of art while at the same time experiencing art in a fun and
/
/tactile manner, but high school art is really about art skill development and
/
/the study of art as a life skill. In this course we really study art and learn
/
/to see, to view the world through artistic eyes, to examine closely and broadly
/
/and apply what we learn. We start with the basic types of drawing and observing
/
/in basic media of several types and move forward to color and 3D later in the
/
/year. Students will be expected to actively participate and work to hone their
/
/God-given skills weekly. This course involves some rated G drawing of the
/
/clothed human body, basic teaching of portraiture, painting a real painting. At
/
/the end of this course, students should walk away with not just considerable
/
/art experience, more freedom in their work, the ability to better grasp of how
/
/to see and examine the world artistically, but real skills that they can take
/
/with them with which to enjoy art for a lifetime and/or use applicably in life
/
/or the workplace.
/
/
/
/ This course is ideal for a high school student or an 8thgrade student with some minimal art experience, either in classroom or personal
/
/or private training, even if it was elementary level. No experience required, of course, but if you
/
/have an 8th grader with no experience, please consider taking the
/
/junior high course first if it fits your student’s schedule.
/
/
/
/ Your $70 supply fee covers all the in-class items like giant
/
/paper and brushes and paint, etc. Every student will need to purchase their own
/
/sketchbook, a set of good drawing pencils and sharpener, a pink pearl type
/
/eraser, and a set of colored pencils to practice at home. (May I suggest that
/
/Ross or beginning of year school sales often have these basic items for a very
/
/inexpensive price.) We may use these pencils, etc, a bit
/
/in class as well, but all other items are covered by your class fee.
/
/
/
/ Class minimum is 6. Class minimum must be reached by August 10
