/At the Dialectic Stage in the Classical Trivium educational model, students in the ?middle school? years are ready to reason and develop logic skills. This particular level of Latin study falls perfectly into that stage. Students are presented with grammar concepts, familiar and unfamiliar to English, but at a pace that allows them time to pursue a line of reason as they work through their homework. First Form Latin is an excellent introduction to the peculiarities of foreign language study without throwing the student in all at once and to an overwhelming degree.

/
/
/It is the teacher?s belief that students at this particular stage are figuring out important systems for themselves, such as getting & staying organized, how to space out their weekly work to their maximum benefit, keeping a schedule, and meeting deadlines for short and long-term assignments. Students are given time to develop their own system of study and practice attentiveness & focus in a subject that demands it. Grace is a resonant feature as students learn diligence in all these skills in preparation for the demands of a high school course load.

/Once students complete the First Form series, or are academically/intellectually ready to move on, they have a solid foundation from which to proceed to Henle?s excellent high school Latin program. Those students following this path meet with great success. Those who choose an alternate foreign language to study in high school have gained an understanding of how languages work which they take with them to their profit.
/
/
/
/First Form Latin is designed to precede Henle Latin, so the vocabulary is drawn almost entirely from the Henle text, which is an advantage should students pursue Latin study. Students are weekly presented 10 new Latin vocabulary words to memorize. We discuss their corresponding English derivatives which help greatly in memorization. The grammar concepts, including proper terminology, and vocabulary are presented systematically and reinforced through the workbook. Students memorize information in an orderly and classified manner that makes intuitive sense. Students completing all four books of the First Form series are ready to move into Henle?s Latin 2 and will have earned 2 high school foreign language credits.

/Additional class components include comprehensive English grammar, Latin sayings, English derivatives, Roman history and culture, classical terms, and some Greek/Roman mythology, as time allows.
