Elementary Writing/Grammar/Literature (NW)

This class includes structured writing, grammar, and literature. After learning how to write a basic paragraph, the students will learn how to use it in many different ways. They will then advance to parts-ordered paragraphs and two-paragraph papers. The writing curriculum, created by the teacher from several sources, will be provided. Students will be taught to write from a Biblical worldview. / /

/ /The text for grammar, Easy Grammar Grade 5, works as an excellent introduction to grammar or a complement to any other grammar program. Parents will need to purchase the Student Workbook ($13.95) and the Student Test Booklet ($4.95). They are available on-line at www.easygrammar.com or at the Home School Store here in Houston. / /

/ /The novels for this class are Sarah, Plain and Tall by Patricia MacLachlan, Caleb?s Story by Patricia MacLachlan, Charlotte?s Web by E.B White, Johnny Texas by Carol Hoff, Amos Fortune, Free Man by Elizabeth Yates, Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and The Magician?s Nephew by C.S. Lewis. Most writing assignments will be based on the reading, but there will not be vocabulary quizzes in this class. / /

/ /Students should expect to spend forty-five minutes to one hour a day on homework, which is given in a daily lesson plan format. During the first semester, they will be required to write neatly in ink. For the rest of the year, they need to know basic word processing. A complete Book and Supply List will be emailed upon receipt of registration. Parental involvement is very important. Please consider this class a commitment for the entire school year. / /
