/This high-school level class will develop reading, writing, listening, and speaking abilities through a variety of different activities. The students learn about Hispanic culture, they answer comprehension questions, all while learning the relevant vocabulary and structures. They apply and retain what they learn in a variety of formats. My goal is for the students to acquire a basic foundation for communicating in Spanish. Although this may be just a first year class, when I work with the students my goals are always long-term: To help them become fluent. Students journal about their day-to-day life, in Spanish, to practice what they are learning. We play games in class, eat Hispanic foods, and even sing songs ? all as a way to reinforce and enjoy learning together. Because I grew up in a Mexican home and am a fluent speaker, I desire to communicate not just the nuts and bolts of the language, but its practical use in everyday life.

/New this year: Online component! In order to provide additional ways to interact with and take advantage of the material, we will be using both online and in-class instruction. Students will meet with me once a week in class where new grammar and vocabulary will be introduced. Their homework will be a combination of traditional and online assignments. I will use the internet for: quizzes, some workbook exercises, listening activities, flash cards, and games. With such a variety of activities, students will listen to the language and write it on a daily basis. Students will still take some tests and quizzes at home- the paper and pencil kind - administered by parents. I?m excited about the opportunity to provide even more ways for your child to review and practice.
